GLONASS satellite system
GLONASS is Russia’s global navigation system. Its medium-orbit satellites transmit signals that receivers use for position and time.
The orbital constellation
Operational slots are distributed among several orbital planes. GLONASS orbits have a higher inclination than GPS orbits, helping viewing geometry at high latitudes. The current object count on the map comes from the open active catalog and may differ from the number of operational satellites.
Constellation mode displays the orbits and lets you compare them with GPS. Screen positions are calculated for the selected time; they are not direct telemetry from the operator.
Several systems in one receiver
Modern navigation receivers often process GLONASS alongside GPS, Galileo and BeiDou. Above Us shows the geometry of these systems, but it does not measure signal quality or the accuracy of a particular device.
