About Above Us
Above Us is an interactive map of active objects in near-Earth space. It helps people explore satellite orbits and geometry using open data.
Data and calculations
The server retrieves the open CelesTrak GP active catalog and refreshes it regularly. Your browser propagates orbital elements with SGP4 for the selected time. The map is therefore a calculated model, not a direct radar observation.
Accuracy decreases as orbital elements age and can be affected by spacecraft maneuvers. Some objects are absent from the active catalog; approximate positions should not be used for safety-critical work or equipment pointing.
Location and reference information
“What is above me?” calculates geometry for your chosen point in the browser. Observer coordinates are not included in shared links or stored on the server. Place search uses a local GeoNames directory.
Names and descriptions of selected objects are enriched from Wikidata. Wikimedia Commons photographs carry author and license attribution. Missing images do not prevent the map from working.
